Renovation Update
Fall 2008
The summer and fall of 2008 have seen tremendous changes at Tabor Commons. The removal and clean-up of the buried gas storage tanks has been completed and the land graded, the exterior of the building has been revamped with new windows, stucco and paint, and the roof has been repaired and resealed. Thanks to our tireless volunteers, 5633 SE Division looks like a new building. Our efforts now turn to completing the interior renovation and creating a warm, inviting Cafe and meeting space.
Exterior Mural Complete
Thanks to the $10,000 Regional Arts & Culture Council grant, artists John Early and Laura Bender have completed the stunning mural adorning our exterior walls. This artwork has truly transformed the space, and has energized us all to make the final push in completing the interior renovation. Come by 5633 SE Division to experience the change and feel the energy!
Stormwater and Landscape Design Funded
Josh Lighthipe with KPFF Engineering has designed an innovative stormwater feature that will capture water from SE 57th Ave and divert it through the SE corner of the property and through a planter along the Division St. sidewalk. The city's Bureau of Environmental Services has dedicated $30,000 toward the project. Eric Shriner, landscape architect, is donating his talents to develop the next stage design concept for the landscaping of the site.
Interior Renovation Underway
This fall, Cafe au Play and Tabor Commons volunteers will focus on the interior renovation of the building, including framing and drywall, concrete floors and ramps, building the base of the coffeebar and installing a garage door in the rear. Additionally, we will be creating an information kiosk at the front of the site and rebuilding the storage shed in the northwest corner. We are currently looking for professionals in the areas of concrete, insulation and landscaping to help us in our efforts.
Café au Play is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. |
