Café au Play Mission and Vision

The mission of Café au Play is to create a nonprofit coffeehouse designed to meet the needs of diverse families for a comfortable, accessible space that encourages social interaction, genuine and sustainable support, creative stimulation, and community inclusion.
The café nourishes community connections by:

• Offering a familiar and communal activity, sharing food and drink, that promotes social interaction.
• Creating a leveling experience where all people are equal within its walls.
• Providing a space where people can drop-in daily and develop friendships with other “regulars” naturally forming genuine support networks.
• Drawing families in and allowing them to stay longer to build community and access Café au Play’s programs and services.

Our vision is to bring together diverse families and community members to foster overlapping communities of “regulars” that:

Achieve a sustainable model: patron-directed • participants design and lead programs; collaborative • Café au Play collaborates with community organizations that support families; and self-funded • proceeds from the coffee bar fund operating expenses.

Support those who are most vulnerable

Create an atmosphere that encourages appreciation for diversity and a multi-generational community

Offer a self-determined, holistic alternative to client-based support services

Change the way the public embraces the needs of families

Promote a new design for integrating families into public spaces
